In yoga, the relationship between the depth of breathing and the amount of distracting thoughts is often discussed.
- When there are many distracting thoughts, breathing is shallow.
- When there are few distracting thoughts, and one is peaceful, breathing is deep.
This is generally correct, but in reality, as Kundalini energy awakens to some extent, the energy increases, making it difficult to hold one's breath for long periods or to take deep, long breaths. The reason for this is that holding one's breath or taking long breaths is an act of accumulating energy, and when the body's capacity reaches its limit, it cannot absorb any more energy, resulting in a feeling of being full and uncomfortable. As a result, the symptoms are as follows:
- Shallow breathing
- Inability to take deep breaths
- Inability to hold one's breath for long periods
This may seem similar to a state of having many distracting thoughts, so objectively, others may often mistake it for that. However, this is a quite different situation. In reality, when Kundalini energy is moving to some extent, the number of distracting thoughts tends to decrease, so one is not as much affected by them. However, the symptoms are similar.
When I searched my records, I found a note from July 2019 stating that after the Kundalini experience, I became less comfortable with Kumbhaka (breath retention), and a year later, in July 2020, my chest (Anahata) opened and breathing became easier, but it was not enough to allow for very deep breathing. At the time of 2019, I was almost in a state of hyperventilation, and I could only hold my breath for 30 seconds, but after 2020, I was able to recover to about 1 minute, and even then, 40 or 50 seconds felt comfortable.
Before Kundalini, I could hold my breath for a longer time, such as 1 minute and 30 seconds, so it seems that the body's capacity reached its limit before the increase in energy.
And recently, the area between my eyebrows and the middle of my head has become relaxed, and the so-called third eye (Ajna chakra) has been opening little by little, which seems to have made breathing easier.
Finally, I think I have returned to a breathing state similar to what it was before the initial Kundalini experience.
