It seems that a certain level of intelligence is necessary. Otherwise, you might easily be convinced and end up thinking that strange organizations are amazing.
For example, some people in certain organizations might claim to have some abilities. For example, they might claim to be able to read other people's minds to some extent, or they might claim to have their third eye open. However, in these kinds of stories, it's often just a matter of having a slightly good intuition.
In reality, even if you can read minds like Anya from SPY×FAMILY, it's not very useful if you don't have intelligence.
Actually, there are quite a few ordinary people, especially women, who can read other people's minds. It's not that rare. People who think that being able to read minds is rare or amazing might be ignorant, or they might not have noticed such things in others because they haven't experienced it themselves, or they might not have been able to connect with people who can read minds. What do you think? Was my surroundings just a special case?
When people say they can read minds, very few people can actually see the underlying truth. I've rarely seen that. It requires not only being able to read minds, but also the ability to understand others by seeing the underlying fundamental aspects. Such people are rare. Those who can do that are probably naturally gifted, and spiritual organizations might function as a place for such people, rather than something they learn in school or organizations. Therefore, how much they can improve through learning depends largely on their innate abilities.
In reality, truly intelligent people, who are naturally psychic, often attend prestigious universities like the University of Tokyo. This is because they can properly write and remember information from a wide range of fields, which requires a certain level of psychic ability (although they often don't think of it that way). Highly intelligent people at the University of Tokyo can accurately read other people's emotions, thoughts, and even the underlying aspects of their minds.
Therefore, it is quite possible that highly educated people who are not interested in spirituality are more spiritual than ordinary people who are just playing around with the idea of spirituality. This is a rather inconvenient truth. I think that highly educated people tend to have a higher proportion of hidden psychics. If you pick the same number of people from each school, there are more psychics in the group of highly educated people. This is a personal hypothesis, not based on statistical data, but it's something I'd like to investigate statistically.
The reason is that some spiritual organizations, in order to increase the self-esteem of participants, teach that "ordinary studies are useless" and "jobs in the general society are useless." They may also teach that only the spiritual work of their own organization is noble, and that ordinary jobs are disdained as "work in the lower realm." This is, at best, ignorant, and often a mere excuse used by the leaders of the organization to manipulate participants for their own benefit. In reality, ordinary people who are not very psychic are often mocking highly educated people who have natural psychic abilities. This is a truly comical situation. Therefore, it is not a matter of reflecting the reality, but rather a mere excuse. People take these excuses seriously, and they end up being used as mere pawns, with their studies neglected. These kinds of traps can be avoided if one has a decent education from a regular school, but people who are not naturally intelligent may be deceived by strange organizations if they get involved in spirituality.
